MORE than 200 families in Antipolo City, Rizal were recently awarded home lots under the local government’s human settlement program, bringing to 734 the number of beneficiaries.

The latest beneficiaries are residents of Barangay San Roque, where three sites have been identified and approved by the Community Mortgage Program. Under the CMP, properties occupied by informal settlers before the enactment of the Housing and Urban Development Act can be acquired by the government for disposal to actual occupants through easy payment term.

Rizal Gov. Jun Ynares III, represented by Rizal Vice Governor Frisco San Juan, Jr., along with Vice President Noli de Castro, Antipolo City Rep. Angelito Gatlabayan and Mayor Nilo Leyble led the turnover ceremony to members of three homeowners’ groups -- the Comstiville Homeowners Association Inc., the L. and Tan Homeowners Group and Pamana.

Also present during the turnover were Francisco Comsti, Jr. and Teresita Tan-Sison, representing the owners of the lots covered by the housing program.

The Rizal government earlier awarded home lots to 532 families from barangays Dela Paz and Sta. Cruz.

Ynares said they are currently negotiating with other Torrens title holders for a possible turnover of a 2,488-square meter land to occupants of the old Vitarich Compound in Barangay Sta. Cruz.

“It is imperative for the government to provide services where it is most needed -- in this case, shelter for the homeless,” Ynares said.
