Expropriation of Valenzuela lands for gov’t use OK’d

[ Manila Bulletin Online ] January 12, 2009

The Sangguniang Panglunsod of Valenzuela City has approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to initiate expropriation proceedings on private lands which will be affected by government projects.

Councilor and Liga ng mga Barangay president Alvin Feliciano, author of the ordinance, said the authority given to Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian will help expedite the expropriation proceedings of the private lands for government use.

He also expressed hope that the owners of the lands will cooperate with the local government for the implementation of the projects which will benefit the residents.

Among those to be included in the expropriation proceedings are the 281 square meters land owned by Antonio P.Antonio in Karuhatan; 60 square meters owned by Maria Concepcion Hipolito in Canumay; 502 square maters with transfer certificate No. V-67471 in Canumay; 2,521 square meters owned by the Philippine Veterans Bank in Malinta; and 40 and 52 square meters of lands owned by Geospecialist, Inc.; and 1,997 square meters of land owned by Raymond Arenas, both in Barangay Punturin.

Feliciano said a new government center, the Lingunan-Lawang Bato vehicular overpass, school buildings and emergency hospital will be constructed in the said parcels of land.

Feliciano said the expropriation proceedings would make it easier for the local government to buy the said lands from the owners.

He said the ordinance is based on Republic Act 7160 which gives the local government authority to buy lands needed for government projects. (Willie L. Catapat)
