TAGUIG City has 10 new barangays after the Commission on Elections conducted a successful plebiscite recently.

Mayor Freddie R. TiƱga said the creation of new barangays will ensure the effective management of the growing number of residents in the city.

It will also ensure effective delivery of basic services to the public, particularly health, education and security.

The plebiscite simultaneously held in December in 12 polling places affirmed the creation of the new villages, bringing to 28 the number of barangays in Taguig.

Barangay Signal Village was divided into four new barangays namely, Baragays North Signal Village, Katuparan, South Signal Village and Central Signal Village.

Barangay Bagong Tanyag, on the other hand, was split into Barangays North Daang Hari, South Daang Hari and Bagong Tanyag (Proper).

Parts of the existing Barangay Hagonoy will fall under the jurisdiction of the newly-created Barangay San Miguel. The same goes for Barangay Upper Bicutan with the creation of Barangay Central Bicutan.

Barangay Lower Bicutan was also divided, creating another barangay known as Barangay New Lower Bicutan.

The new law also subdivided Barangay Western Bicutan and created two new barangays (from the mother barangay) Barangays Fort Bonifacio and Pinagsama, respectively.

The barangays had to be subdivided because Taguig has more than 100,000 population.
