Rizal provincial govt approves tax amnesty

Monday, 17 January 2011 00:00 [ manilatimes.net ]
ANTIPOLO CITY: The Rizal provincial government recently approved a measure that gives delinquent real property tax owners in the province a chance to settle their obligations.
Acting on the endorsement of Gov. Casimiro “Jun” Ynares 3rd of Rizal, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the Real Property Tax Amnesty through SP Ordinance 017, s. 2010, which is already in effect in the province.
Delinquent land owners can now avail of the tax amnesty and pay their real property taxes without penalties or interest from January 1 to March 31, 2011 at the Office of the Provincial Treasurer (OPT), Antipolo City or at the Office of the Municipal Treasurer where the property is located.
Ynares also ordered the OPT to conduct a massive information-dissemination campaign regarding the approved measure in the hope of encouraging property owners to pay real property tax religiously.
“Aside from giving much relief to delinquent real property tax owners, I believe that this ordinance will have positive effects in uplifting the financial resources of the province [and its] municipalities and barangays [villages],” Ynares said.
“Furthermore, it will update real property tax collectibles and shall establish sound internal controls,” he added.
The governor said that he expects delinquent taxpayers to update their payments and avoid stiff penalties.
He also said that it is better to start the year right, so that businesses will thrive in the province.
