Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar inspects the ongoing construction of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway.
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it expects to open a 10-kilometer (km) Laguna segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) ending in Sta. Rosa next month.
“Our target is these 10 kilometers by next month. We will open the first 10 kilometers. Para konti na lang tapusin (To leave just a little of it unfinished),” Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar said.
Mr. Villar said the original July target was missed because of the need to implement some “finishing touches” on the road segment.
Overall, he said, the project remains on track.
The CALAX project, being built by MPCALA Holdings, Inc., is a 45.3-km link between CAVITEx and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) worth P35.43 billion.
CALAX consists of a 27.2-km Cavite section which is under construction, and a 18.1-km Laguna section.
The CALAX project is expected to reduce travel time from CAVITEx to SLEx to below 45 minutes from the current 2.5 hours.
Mr. Villar also said that the plan is to complete the project by the end of President Duterte’s term in 2022. — Marc Wyxzel C. Dela Paz
