Major Filipino property developers are among the participants in the second AIREEC Show, the biggest real estate event in California with 30 countries participating, as they buy for a share in the $ 52-billion second home market for retirees.

Susan Barlin, Malacañang’s special envoy on tourism and investment and president of CEO Club that is spearheading the 2nd AIREEC (American International Real Estate Expo and Conference), said there are already five Filipino developers that have confirmed their attendance to the show including Sta. Lucia, Federal Land, Filinvest, Fil-Estate and St. Catherine. Ayala Land Inc., and SMIC have yet to confirm their participation to the event which will be held on September 3-5 at the Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.

The three-day event will focus on Global 2nd Homes and Resorts.

Barlin said that Tourism Secretary Joseph "Ace" Durano would be gracing the occasion since the DoT was the one that put up the Philippine pavilion.

Durano has already met with the country’s giants in property and real estate development sector to discuss a DoT project called "Live Your Dream" which would promote the Philippines as second home to foreign retirees.

Under this program, property developers are expected to play a key role as developments have to take into consideration the special needs of the retirees. The DOT’s role is to help market their developments to the foreign communities.

"The baby boomers are turning 62 and are all looking for their second homes outside of the U.S." Barlin said.

"The U.S. recession also works in our favor because we can offer a lifestyle for retirees at lower cost," she said. The second homes market is estimated at $ 52 billion.

Durano would start drumbeating his "Live Your Dream" program during the AIREEC event although a formal launch would be held here in the country.

Barlin said that Durano si expected to receive the award for the Philippines as a Tourist Destination Country of the Year.

Barlin said the Aireec show in LA is expected to surpass last year’s 9,000 participants at the SMX Convention Center. It will feature 150 real estate property exhibitors globally.

The biggest delegation would come from Mexico.

The three-day AIREEC show would also hold symposium with real property moguls as speakers.

Barlin, a top caliber real estate broker in California, said that she is planning to hold 7 AIREECs by 2012 completing a round of shows in the Philippines for Asia, America, Abu Dhabi, Austria, Argentina, Africa and Australia.
