Flyover in Quezon City to link expressways

THE Department of Public Works and Highways on Monday said that it has started the construction design of a flyover project in Quezon City.

The P420-million flyover will be part of the link between the North Luzon and South Luzon Expressways (NLEX-SLEX).

Engineer Reynaldo Rosario, assistant planning chief of the Public works agency’s National Capital Region office, said the flyover will be constructed along the Circumferential Road-5 (C-5) and Commonwealth Avenue, and will connect Tandang Sora Avenue with Luzon Avenue.

“We’re still doing the detailed design of the project and would only bid it out after the local government of Quezon City has cleared the road right-of-way,” Rosario told reporters in an interview.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte of Quezon City, in an earlier report, was said to have pledged P18 million for the road right-of-way acquisition.

The engineer said the flyover project would measure about 300 meters and would have a width of 18 meters. It would have two lanes for the north and south bound directions.

“The flyover project is one of the three remaining ‘missing link’ projects in which covers about 8 kilometers of the 41-kilometer long NLEX-SLEX [connection] project,” Rosario said.

Once the 41-kilometer link between the south and north tollways is finished, it will relieve traffic volume along EDSA.

“Apart from using EDSA, motorists could use another major thoroughfare, which is the C-5,” Rosario said. -- Anthony Vargas
