LUCENA CITY: This city ranked seventh out of the 22 cities adjudged as most competitive mid-sized cities based on a study conducted by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center.

This research is the highlight of the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Program (PCCRP) sponsored by AIM to give recognition to cities in the country considered to have an ideal setup and stable economic conditions for employment and investment, as well as for residential options. The AIM research for 2007 was done in 90 cities, based on seven drivers-indicators that include: dynamism of local economy, cost of doing business, infrastructure, human resources and training, responsiveness of local governments to business needs and quality of life.

The 90 selected cities were clustered into three categories: metro, mid-sized and small cities. From the 25 cities selected, four came from National Capital Region, 11 from Luzon, four from Visayas, and six from Mindanao.

The top performing cities under the metro category include Davao, Lapu-Lapu, Makati, Manila, Marikina and Quezon City.

The 25 mid-sized cities, aside from Lucena, also include Cabanatuan, General Santos, Olongapo, San Pablo, Tagum and Tarlac. -- Belly M. Otordoz
