Vigan council okays city’s P200-M budget

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — The city council has approved an annual budget of P200,159,341.21 for the operations of the city government in 2009.

The council also approved the proposed annual development fund amounting to P54 million which will be used to fund various projects.

The approved budget will still be subject to the approval by the city’s chief executive, Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina.

The annual budget is based on the needs and fund proposals of the different departments of the city government. It also includes funds for the city’s obligations.

The budget proposals and expenditures of the different departments of the city government were deliberated upon by the sangguniang panlungsod.

Sections 1 and 2 of the city council’s Appropriation Budget Ordinance No. 5 state that the 2009 annual budget takes effect on Jan. 1, 2009.

The appropriated amount is broken down as follows:

Personnel services, P98,052,347.45; maintenance and other operating expenses, P26,732,338.54; capital outlay, P8,490,000; financial expenses, P3,557,472; non-office expenditures, P63,327.183.30.

By virtue of Resolution No. 39, Series of 2008, the city council also approved the 2009 annual development plan in which P25 million is allotted for the economic development.
