City Hall to build P35-M jetty to protect FLI property in SRP

Friday, April 9, 2010 [ sunstar.com.ph ]

A JETTY worth P35 million will be constructed at the South Road Properties (SRP) next month, to help protect the upscale development of Filinvest Land Inc. (FLI) from big waves and keep the garbage from the sea off the 10.6-hectare property.

SRP Management Office head Nagiel Bañacia said the jetty is meant to break big waves, especially during a typhoon, so the structural integrity of structures on Pond F will not be compromised.

He said the City Government will construct the jetty within the two-hectare buffer zone of the SRP near the boundary of Cebu City and Talisay City, and not on the P1.6-billion Pond F, now owned by FLI.

The two-hectare buffer zone is still owned by the City Government.

The jetty is a protective structure that will project into the sea off the Pond F area to influence the current or tide. It is also intended to protect the harbor or shoreline from storms or erosion.

“It will also be useful in keeping the garbage coming from the Bulacao River, which is near the Inayawan sanitary landfill, from going to the SRP. It will be the wave breaker, it will protect Pond F from the big waves and the garbage para dili maabot sa Pond F, which will be a leisure and recreational area,” Banacia said.

Based on FLI’s development plan, commercial and retail complexes, a 2,000-square-meter exhibition tent, a boardwalk with fine dining restaurants and fastfood outlets will be constructed on Pond F, the 1.1-kilometer stretch of seafront lots in the SRP.

Aside from the jetty, other infrastructure projects worth P80 million will be undertaken at the SRP.

These include two industrial roads with sidewalks and drainage (P24.4 million), white sand beach on Kawit Island (P15.3 million), welcome hill with tower (P28.9 million), back-up water system in Kawit (P748,000) and the second phase of the senior citizens’ building (P10.6 million).

The projects were funded in this year’s third supplemental budget and were bid out last month. Bañacia said construction will start after the elections next month, since the City Council still has to approve the resolutions awarding the contracts to the winning bidders.

On Kawit Point, a pier will also be put up to serve as an inter-island ferry terminal.

He said the Cebu Investment and Promotions Center is still negotiating with Oceanjet for the operation of the inter-island ferry, which will take tourists to neighboring islands Bohol, Negros Oriental or Siquijor. (LCR)
