MANILA, Philippines - Andrew Tan-led
property firm Megaworld Corp. is set to open in October a new hotel brand which
will cater to business travellers.
The local brand, dubbed Newport
Belmont Hotel, will be first introduced within Megaworld’s 25-hectare township
Newport City in Pasay City.
The 10-story business-class hotel will
have 480 rooms and suites ranging from 23 to 33 square meters in size.
The move is part of Megaworld’s plan
to become the largest hotel developer in the Philippines by 2020.
This would be the fourth hotel brand
to rise in Newport City. Other hotels in
Newport City are Resorts World Manila, Marriott Hotel Manila, Maxims Hotel and
Remington Hotel, which are currently enjoying an average of at least 85 to 90
percent occupancy rate every month.
Lorenzo Tang, general manager of
Newport Belmont Hotel. said the entry of the new hotel is timely given strong
occupancy rates in the area.
“The entry of Belmont Hotel in Newport
City is a timely opportunity as the existing hotels experience remarkable
monthly occupancy rates since they opened a few years ago. We are bringing a
new brand to cater to the discerning tastes of business travelers,” Tang said.
Among the hotel’s amenities include
podium gardens, a 24-hour fitness center and workout area. There will also be a range of dining and
shopping stores at the ground level.
Other hotels in Newport City are
Resorts World Manila, Marriott Hotel Manila, Maxims Hotel and Remington Hotel,
which are currently enjoying an average of at least 85 to 90 percent occupancy
rate every month.
Megaworld and sister company Travellers
International Hotel Group are currently building hotels around the country with
a total of 12,000 rooms.
In the next five years, both companies
will be expanding to an additional 10,000 new hotel rooms, all of which will be
in Megaworld’s township developments.
This year alone, Megaworld opened the
12-story, 149-room Richmonde Hotel Iloilo located within the 72-hectare Iloilo
Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
This is the first Richmonde hotel brand outside Metro Manila.
Megaworld and Travellers International
have already built 2,049 rooms in its existing hotels.
The opening of Newport Belmont Hotel
in October will bring the group’s total hotel rooms in Megaworld townships
across the country to 2,500 by the end of the year.
