Cavite
Infrastructure Corp. (CIC), a tollway unit of Metro Pacific Investment
Corp. (MPIC), said it will submit this month to the Toll Regulatory
Board (TRB) a proposal to extend the Manila-Cavite Expressway from Kawit
to Noveleta up to Rosario in Cavite.
The P22.5-billion project called Segment 5 will extend the existing 14-kilometer toll expressway by another 9.5 kms. covering Marulas and Kawit to Rosario, traversing Noveleta.
Luigi Bautista, CIC president , said the proposal was supposed to have been submitted last June .
“We need to check the traffic number. We have to make sure that the project is financial viable before we submit it to TRB.” Bautista said.
The feasibility study and project information memorandum or the business proposal will be submitted to the TRB for approval.
CIC has other tollway expansion projects in the southern part of Metro Manila.
CIC has allocated over P1 billion for the improvement and expansion of Cavitex to address congestion.
Of the total budget, P800 million has been allocated for Cavitex’ road widening as well as the construction of a flyover on the southbound lane.
The flyover was partially opened last week and is expected to fully completed by early September, according to Bautista.
He said Cavitex’ 145,000 daily traffic volume will increase by 10 percent once the expansion is completed next month.
The second phase of Cavitex’ enhancement works involves bridge widening at the Wawa, Las PIñas area. This will be completed by the second quarter next year.
Cavitex is part of a road network being expanded by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., a tollway arm of MPIC. It will be connected to the 7.7-km. C5-Southlink which will traverse in Taguig, Las Pinas, Paranaque as well as to the 45-km. Cavite-Laguna Expressway.
Aside from Cavitex, MPTC also operates North Luzon Expressway and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).
As of end June this year, the average daily vehicle entries of the three tollways system — NLEX, SCTEX and CAVITEX — rose 9 percent to 480,711 from 440,904 in the first half of 2017.
Traffic on the Cavitex rose 7 percent driven by growth in residential communities in Cavite and tourism in Batangas.
Traffic on NLEX grew 9 percent and on SCTEX by 15 percent following integration of these two roads and opening of additional lanes in 2017.
