Wednesday, June 10, 2009 [ manilatimes.net ]

Maynilad Water Services Inc. is putting up a wastewater treatment plant in Muntinlipa City.

In a statement, the utility said that its proposed treatment plant would have the first large-scale membrane filtration technology in the Philippines.

This water treatment technology entails the use of membranes to filter out suspended solids and other substances without the need for chemicals.

The facility, which will cost $27.44 million, will have a 100 million liter per day capacity.

“The low maintenance, energy-efficient water treatment system will begin producing safe, affordable and reliable water by 2010, and will benefit approximately 105,000 households in the said area,” the company said.

Besides this, Rogelio Singson, Maynilad president, said that the plant has the capacity to expand its water production from additional demand in the area.

Pall, the global leader in the rapidly growing field of filtration, separation, and purification, will be Maynilad’s water treatment technology provider for the Muntinlupa project.

Maynilad currently serves 6.4 million of the 8.9 million people in the West Zone concession of state-run Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.

The company embarked on an aggressive service improvement and supply development program, as it targets to provide more households with 24-hour coverage at 7 pounds per square inch.
