Davao Norte to put up better water system soon

PIA Press Release

Davao City (25 June) -- An investor is now discussing details with the local officials of Tagum City to finally put in place a better water system not just in the said city but in the entire Davao del Norte.

This was bared by Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario as he opened the launching of the weeklong 41st Araw ng Davao del Norte during the Kapihan sa Kapitolyo yesterday.

Del Rosario admitted that despite the progress that the province is experiencing, making it a premier province would not be achieved without the establishment of a better water system.

"There are two things that we will focus on until 2010, one is water system and the other is good power supply. These two are needed in both Tagum and Panabo City," he said.

The official envisioned that putting up a water system in Tagum City is already the start of a more progressive province. Investors are becoming more selective in choosing where to invest and the major criterion is the area's water system.

Del Rosario hoped that the investor and the local government of Tagum City will finally agree on such particular project so that the neighboring municipalities could immediately take advantage of the system to be first established in Tagum.

"The investor is now conducting their own study as to how to go about the project." he said. The province, on the other hand, already did its part as it initiated years ago a feasibility study for a water system. The study's results paved the way for private investors to be lured and be interested on the project.

The official also reiterated his call for the local government of the Island Garden City of Samal to first focus on water system, power supply, and telecommunication before starting the construction of a bridge that would connect the island to Davao City.

"I am not against any investments that are coming in the island. But when asked if I favor the bridge construction now, I would say that there are more important things that should first be addressed before the bridge."

Del Rosario bared that hotel resorts in Samal are getting their power supply from generators which makes it very unattractive in the eyes of potential investors.

The official stressed that whatever is left discontinued during his previous term as governor will finally be pushed before 2010. (PIA)
