CLARK FREEPORT -- SM City Clark will be the recipient of an award that recognizes the mall management's efforts for making the establishment "access friendly" for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD), Incorporated, through the Mabini Awards Committee, chaired by Representative Cynthia Villar, has chosen SM City Clark as for its 2008 Apolinario Mabini Award.
For 34 years now, PFRD has been giving the Apolinario Mabini Awards to deserving individuals, groups and agencies that have made outstanding contributions to PWDs.
This has been a major annual program of the PFRD in promoting wider recognition of disabled persons as self-respecting, self-reliant and productive members of the society.
SM City Clark was able to bag the category on the "Disabled Friendly Establishment of the Year."
The same honor is also given to SM Mall of Asia, SM City Marilao, SM City Baguio, SM City Lipa, SM City San Lazaro and SM City Taytay.
These SM Malls were commended by the committee for the way they have tried to effect a change in attitude towards the disabled to show that people in general should not be afraid or be indifferent in extending kindness and concern toward PWDs.
Awarding ceremonies for the Apolinario Mabini Awards will be on July 30 at MalacaƱang Palace led by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
To accept the award for SM City Clark will be the assistant mall manager Lana Erroba.
Other awardees include Nueva Vizcaya, City Government of Makati, and the Municipality of Carmona, Cavite for the Local Government Unit category for their outstanding and significant achievements and services for their constituents with disabilities. (IOF)
