THE very cold weather in Baguio and Benguet never deterred tourists from coming here.

The cold spell has in fact made the Cordilleras distinct from the rest of other tourist destinations in the country, said Tourism Regional Director Purificacion Molintas.

"It creates the impression Baguio and some parts of the Cordilleras are the coolest areas in the country and will always be sought for it. It is a very distinct characteristic that cannot be found anywhere else in the Philippines, which makes us truly unique," Molintas said in a text message.

For close to a week now, temperature in Baguio was down to around nine degrees than the average 10 degrees centigrade during the cold months of January and February.

The lowest recorded so far this year is 7.5 degrees centigrade, at 5 a.m. of Wednesday.

Those in the tourism industry are also praying for cool weather to remain the same to further encourage tourists to come to Baguio and Benguet.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the cool weather will be until next month.
