Mati's ordinances as city now invalid

Monday, June 8, 2009 [ sunstar.com.ph ]

IT is not only the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share of Mati that was affected by the Supreme Court decision nullifying its cityhood but also ordinances passed when it was still a city.

Vice Mayor Cesar de Erio said several of their ordinances are now considered as "inoperative" as a result of the SC decision.

Meaning, the ordinances passed by the City Council when the cityhood was still in effect are no longer effective and are deemed invalid as well when the very institution that created them was declared by the High Court as null and void.

De Erio said they are still collating all the ordinances and resolutions that were deemed inoperative.

Meanwhile, despite the reversion of Mati into a municipality, though, the 6th Pujada Bay Festival is still a go as preparations are ongoing to ensure its success.

The celebration will kick off on June 19 with the commemoration of what could have been the 2nd cityhood celebration. Pujada Bay Festival will run until June 25. (Ben O. Tesiorna)
