AT LEAST two major medical facilities in Davao City are on the road to becoming Mindanao's first medical tourism facilities, based on the Board of Investments (BOI)-Southern Mindanao.
Gil Dureza, BOI-Southern Mindanao chief, said during the Club 888 business forum at Marco Polo Davao that there are two medical facilities in Davao City that have applied for expansion in line with their bid for medical tourism.
"Aside from the two existing facilities, another investment focused on dental tourism is also underway," Dureza said, citing the growing investments focused on tourism in Southern Mindanao.
The identities of the companies were, however, not disclosed by Dureza.
But based on previous interviews, Davao Doctors Hospital has announced that it is gearing in becoming one of the flagship medical tourism facilities in Mindanao.
Moreover, medical tourism will be discussed during a plenary session of the Mindanao Travel and Tour Expo 2009, with Metro Pacific Investments Corporation chair Manuel V. Pangilinan as speaker.
Other investments focused on tourism in the region are two retirement villages in Davao del Norte and an inland resort in Davao City.
"One of the retirement villages is an investment by a Korean investor, while the other is local," Dureza said. (CPM)
