DAVAO CITY — Two property developers here will spend a total of P35.8 million on two structures, including what used to be a nightspot and disco house, for use by business process outsourcing (BPOs) companies.
The retrofitting of The Venue, a local entertainment center, will convert its disco floors into rows of cubicles, while adding another floor to double its existing 1,200 square-meter area. Renovation of The Venue, at a cost of P4.5 million, is already 95% complete, said Edgar L. Te, an executive of Davao Filandia Realty Services and KGCC Davao Construction Services.
Changes at The Venue were made according to specifications of US-based Sutherland Philippines, which currently operates a contact center here and expects to double its agents in the city to 1,200 workers when The Venue’s space becomes available. "I think the operation will start next month," Mr. Te said.
Mr. Te added they are also building a three-storey building on a 1,500 square-meter property adjacent to The Venue that will have 4,500 sq.m. of floor space costing at least P31.3 million. This project is scheduled to be completed in December 2010.
The developers, who also own the nearby Plaza de Luisa commercial complex, will apply for perks as an ICT park with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority. — JBE
