The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) targets becoming a leading tourist destination that would double visitors to the country by up to four million in the next three years.
SBMA administrator Armand Arreza told The Tribune that even before the entry and completion of major investments related to tourism, the Freeport zone was listed by the Tourism department in 2009 as a site that registered the most number of visitors reaching over two million.
“We aim to sustain this in 2010 as we see bigger growth in commercial tourism we aim to become the number one domestic tourist destination in the country,” Arreza said.
Next to Subic was Camarines Sur with 900,000 tourists; followed by Cebu, 830,000; next was Boracay, 383,000; Baguio, 371,000; Davao, 326,000; Puerto Galera, 215,000; Bohol with 160,000 and Negros, 146,000. These were the figures registered as of October 2009. Ayen Infante
