Taguig City is spearheading Family Townhomes in Calzada-Tipas village to house informal settlers in medium-rise condominiums.
Under the One Taguig program, low-income families will be able to benefit from the gains of the city as it becomes one of the leading investment hubs in Metro Manila.
Mayor Sigfrid Tinga said human resource formed part of the city’s vast capital for growth.
“We are not only building homes for the poor to change they way people live, but we are also promoting friendship and cooperation,” he said.
Family Townhomes won the Galing Pook Awards for being the best housing program to become a global template for social development by Gawad Kalinga and Habitat for Humanity.
City Administrator Wilfredo Villar said qualified settlers in the Maysapang-Aranai section of Ususan would be transferred to Calzada-Tipas.
“The move to our Family Townhomes units will give them a fresh start, to live in a more decent and conducive environment,” he said.
Villar said at least 565 families have been screened following the procedures under the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992, and complying with documentary requirements for relocation.
Familes unable to qualify under the housing law’s critieria would get financial assistance, food subsidy and logistics support.
In February 2004, the Bases Conversion Development Authority conveyed to Taguig a 33.15 hectare land in the former Fort Bonifacio military reservation, which included Maysapang, Aranai, Ususan and Bagong Tanyag.
