CREBA leads organizations in countryside poverty alleviation

The Chamber of Real Estate and Builders Associations (CREBA) will lead, with the active participation of major business and industry sectors, in alleviating countryside poverty by generating jobs and revenues for local governments.

CREBA founder and board chairman Atty. Manuel M. Serrano said the country’s business and financial sectors have signed up in carrying out its 2008 goal of poverty alleviation.

Among major business organizations to be urged to rally behind the goal of poverty alleviation in the countryside are the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FCCCI), Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI), Philippine Contractors Association (PCA), Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (PhilExport), Chamber of Mines of the Philippines (COMP), National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc. (NFHFI), and Financial Executive Institute of the Philippines (FINEX), JCI Philippines (Phil. Jaycees), The Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) will will assist in providing funding requirements.

The real estate-builders group will also go all-out in assisting the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) promote the sale of government retail bonds exclusively for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) to raise the much-needed funds for infrastructure and housing.

The poverty alleviation goal which envisions the development of investment potentials of participating local governments, Serrano said, will be orchestrated in collaboration with the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) headed by former Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Domingo Panganiban with the assistance of all concerned government agencies.

CREBA recently held its election of 2008 officers and directors last November. Serrano was reelected chairman, while active CREBA leader Reghis M. Romero II was elected national president. Both Serrano and Romero II were recent awardees of the BizNews Asia "Real Estate Who is Who (BREW)" for their major contributions in sustaining the role of the real estate industry as the country’s major economic pump-primer.
