Davao hospital inaugurates, biggest emergency room

[ Manila Bulletin Online ] December 16, 2008

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte – The Davao Regional Hospital (DRH) here has recently inaugurated its new Emergency Room (ER) Complex which is said to be the biggest in Mindanao.

The inauguration of the ER complex was also highlighted with the blessing of the R18 million Siemens Somotom Spirit dual-slice CT scan.

Dr. Romulo Busuego, DRH chief, said that the new ER complex is one of the landmarks of the hospital under his administration.

"The core of our success is through collaboration and partnership with different national government agencies and private institutions," Busuego said.

He, however, did not mention as to how much was cost of the renovation of the ER complex.

Busuego said that the hospital could only accommodate 8,000 admissions before, but with the new complex, it can now accommodate 24,000 admissions a year and attend to some 97,000 outpatients.

He claimed that they were able to expand their services because of good management and availability of funds and resources.

"Now, the hospital has almost 400 employees including doctors and nurses, not including the almost 200 contractual personnel, from 143 employees before," Busuego said.

He said the hospital has a 200-bed capacity.

It offers transplant surgery, colon, and rectal surgery, among others.

Busuego is now lobbying for the hospital to be transformed to a cancer center in Mindanao, as conceived by the Department of Health. (Ben D. Arche)
