Tax collection of the Quezon City government has reached P9.4 billlion which is P1 billion more than last year’s collection of only P8.4 billion during the same period, the city treasurer said yesterday.

Dr. Victor Endriga said real estate tax collection continues to rise with P 1.1 billion registered as of Dec 2.

“The combined impact of the global financial turmoil that sent land values worldwide plummeting to depths hitherto unknown and the jitters in the local marketplace failed to dampen the spirit of the Quezon City Real Estate Division, as it posted gross collection that tipped the P1,113,766,523.50 scale or an increase by P66,803,766.26 compared to last year’s same period collection,” he said.

Endriga said that the real estate division, headed by Tina Lorredo, had proven to be resilient as it continued to push ahead to carry the real estate gross take through the rough patch.

Total real estate tax haul that included funds raised for the Special Education Fund in the amount of P911,716,723.42 and barangay share pegged at P477,324,294.03, had beefed up the city’s real estate purse by P 2,502,807,540.95.

Endriga said overall tax collection as of Dec. 2 had perched on the P9,466,906,304.11 niche, up by P1,007,836,619.71 year-on-year, as last year’s haul registered P8,459,069,685.

Endriga lauded Lorredo and the entire personnel of the real estate division in their relentless effort to beat the odds at the local fiscal front amid the wild oscillations of the global financial fiasco.

“Tax collection efficiency in this area had pumped liquidity into the fragile real estate, tax base to avoid slow growth, Endriga said.

The Quezon City government under the stewardship of Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has been declared by the Commisions on Audit as the richest city for the last seven years.

The city also topped as the most competititive city in Metro Manila by a survey conducted recently.
