Three front-line agencies of the city government of Makati have been certified as meeting international standards set by the International Standards Organization (ISO).

Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay received the ISO 9001:2000 Certificate from ISO representatives recently which covers processes being implemented in its Business Permits Office (BPO), Office of the Building Official (OBO) and Zoning Administration Division under the Urban Development Department (UDD).

Binay commended the ISO-certified offices that rendered excellent services and processes. Binay also directed the department heads and directors to keep up the good job.

“This certification is a testament to our passion and commitment to offer exceptional public service to the constituents of Makati. I hope this certification inspires us to give more to Makati’s citizens,” Binay said.

ISO is an international network of the national standards institutes of over 150 countries that certifies the adherence of government and private enterprises to global standards of excellence.

Among the processes certified are: Issuance of Business Permits and Individual Mayor’s Permits under the BPO; issuance of Building and Occupancy Permits under the OBO, and Issuance of Locational Clearances under the UDD.

The aforesaid processes that were certified are the initial services that the city government aims to enhance to improve public service delivery and to strengthen its claim as the country’s Financial Center.

Binay said the city government is now preparing for its second wave of ISO certification for other services early this year until 2010. Among the offices to be included in the certification are: Assessment Department, Finance Department, Civil Registration Office and the Makati Health Department.

“In our city’s mission statement we envision to be a model for world class governance. Working together, we can further improve the services of the city government to be able to be considered as one of the best cities to live, work and play in,” Binay said.

He added this achievement of the city government is part of his direction to strengthen the competitiveness of the city to be at par with the world’s other financial centers.

Meanwhile, the city of Makati also has been awarded as one of the most competitive metro cities by AIM’s Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project.

“Our successes are driven by our hope to give more to the public who we serve,” Binay said.
