P239-M LWUA projects finished

A total of 46 water supply projects worth P239 million have been completed by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) in 45 provincial areas at the end of April.

The completed projects are part of the 220 water supply system development projects that LWUA has targeted for completion this year which include the installation or improvement of water systems in so-called waterless municipalities, the agency said.

LWUA has accelerated and expanded its water supply development program to support the fulfillment of one of President Arroyo’s priority legacy program, that of providing safe drinking water to every barangays by 2010.

The completed projects were for further improvement or expansion of water supply systems of the beneficiary water districts.

A few projects were also for the rehabilitation of water systems of certain water districts in Iloilo province that were damaged by Typhoon Frank and other recent destructive typhoons.

The projects involved the development of additional surface or groundwater sources, construction of water impounding, pumping and storage facilities with provision for water treatment or disinfection, installation of transmission and distribution lines as well as metered household individual service connections and fire hydrants for fire-fighting and other emergencies.

The completed projects were undertaken in the water districts of Penablanca, Cagayan; Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur; Balaoan, La Union; San Quintin, Bani and Pozzorrubio in Pangasinan; Cuyapo, Jaen and Gapan City in Nueva Ecija; Sta. Rita and Candaba in Pampanga;

Sta. Maria, Baliwag, San Rafael, Bocaue and Meycauayan in Bulacan; Lian, Lobo, Mabini (2 projects), Tuy and Taal in Batangas; Mauban, Quezon; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; San Jose, Mindoro; Casiguran and Irosin, Sorsogon; Lemery, Calinog, DueƱas, Dumarao, Miag-ao, Janiuay and Tubungan in Iloilo; Pandan, Antique; Nabas, Aklan; Buenavista, Agusan del Norte; Metro Kidapawan, North Cotabato; Kapatagan and Tubod-Baroy in Lanao del Norte; Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte; Dapitan City; Ipil-Titay, Zamboanga del Sur; Koronadal, South Cotabato; Madrid, Surigao del Sur; and Gingoog City.

LWUA is targeting this year the completion of water supply projects for 119 waterless communities within the jurisdiction of water districts and for 101 already formed but still non-operational water districts.
