THE traditional "Bahay Kubo" is given a contemporary twist in one of the city's newest real estate developments, Villa Azalea.
Designed by Architect John David O'yek, who is an advocate of sustainable design principles which have minimal carbon footprints and effect on the environment, the contemporary bahay kubo design offers a new alternative for Davao residents.

Earlier this year, O'yek bagged the grand price at the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (Made) Competition for his entry "Urban Oasis" which enables the homeowners to live a lifestyle without harming the environment.
Martin Pineda, owner of Mountain Haven Development, the real estate firm behind Villa Azalea and Mountain Haven, told reporters during the Club 888 business forum that the model house is nearing completion which will accord future homeowners to appreciate their concept more.
Villa Azalea, a project of Mountain Haven Development, will be located in a 31,229-square meter property in Ma-a, Davao City.
The developer took more than a year to gather the documents needed for the development permit application.
These include the environmental compliance certificate and development plans with the drainage maintenance system.
