ILOILO City is successful in its housing program for the urban poor that address both the key housing and land use issues, according to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.
In his message to stakeholders and participants during the opening of the weeklong Fourth Western Visayas Housing Fair 2009 October 26 held at the Robinsons Place Iloilo, Treñas said the city has managed a growing population with constrained resources by citing the Iloilo City urban poor network as a vital partner in solving the acute housing problem.
The housing fair starts October 26 until October 30, 2009 participated by 16 realty and land development exhibitors, eight government agencies involved in housing lead by the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and five non-government organizations for the urban poor and community associations and the Untied Architect of the Philippines Hamili Chapter.
Treñas said the International Solidarity for Asia (ISA) and Palladium recently cited the city in Jakarta, Indonesia for having urban poor initiatives that serves as model for social welfare and urban development that sustained viable initiatives in Asia.
With a strong partnership with the private sector, the housing program for the urban poor is a sustaining one that successfully addressed key housing and land use issues.
The city mayor is instrumental in putting up several relocation sites for the informal sector including those victims of natural calamities and those living in danger zones, especially along the riverbanks and creeks.
The fair exhibitors include the AJLedesma Construction Corporation, Camella Communities, Eon Realty and Development Corporation, Firm Builders Realty Development Corporation, HCBC Land Development Corporation, HDL Landholdings Incorporated, Jabez Properties Development Corporation, Kauswagan Management Development Corporation, Landheights (Iloilo) Development Corporation, Orchard Property Marketing Corporation, Phil. Estates Corporation, Pro-Friends Incorporated, St Rafael Development Corporation and Vamajs Realty and Development Corporation.
