Maynilad Water Services Inc., the water concessionaire running the west zone of Metro Manila, said Monday it will spend P5.86 billion this year to improve and extend pipe network in the south of the metropolis.

Maynilad said in a statement it would invest over P3.5 billion to expand primary lines in Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa and Cavite and P1.6 billion to install pipe lines from Las Piñas to Cavite.

The company plans to spend some P400 million for pipelaying projects in Muntinlupa and over P300 million for pipe extension projects in Parañaque.

Maynilad said over 450 kilometers of primary and secondary pipelines would be laid, which will improve service levels and serve formerly unreached customers in Maynilad’s concession area.

Maynilad said the P5.8-billion project would benefit over 520,000 residents.

“For decades, the people in Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas and Cavite have been sourcing their water from deep wells. Finally, we are able to replicate in the South the notable achievements that we were able to do for the northern part of Manila,” said Maynilad president and chief executive Victorico Vargas.

Maynilad is a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and DMCI Holdings Inc. of the Consunji group.

The water utility company last month raised the programmed capital spending for the year to P10.5 billion from P7 billion in a bid to improve service delivery and coverage in the concession area.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It serves the cities Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, Edsa, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite.
