MANILA, Philippines — Taguig’s record as one of the most business-friendly cities in the Philippines must be upheld and safeguarded, according to Rep. Freddie Tinga.

The former Taguig city mayor cited a study commissioned by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank (WB) and Asian Institute of Management Policy Center (APC) “Doing Business in the Philippines 2011” which cited Taguig City as one of the easiest cities to do business with. The study was done in 2010.

The study provides a measure of the national and local regulations and compared key cities in the country using quantitative yardsticks. It covered three areas of regulation: Starting a business, dealing with licenses and registering property.

For the 2011 report, Taguig City ranked first in “registering property,” second in “dealing with construction permits,” and third in “starting a business.”

In 2008, Taguig City was ranked first in the category “starting a business.” According to the report, registering a business in Taguig then would take about 15 procedures and 27 days to register.

“Taguig has been dubbed “Emerging Supernova of the Philippines” and with good governance it can emerge as one of Asia’s, if not the world’s, most admired cities,” comments Tinga. ‘’The current administration should not waste the gains that were made as it takes so little to tarnish these well-earned reputations that many worked so hard for.”

Tinga was “Father of Taguig” from 2001 to 2010. He received the “Galing Pook” award in 2008 and 2009 for trailblazing programs that gained measurable, positive results, empowered its people, and enhanced service delivery.

During Tinga’s administration Taguig launched the Taguig Citycard, an ID card system that allows residents to have free or discounted access to various social services, and priority in employment opportunities.
