BORACAY, Aklan: Police Director General Avelino Razon Jr. urged the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) and the Boracay Special Tourism Police Office to protect tourists here at all costs, reported Panay News.
A premier tourism destination in the country, Boracay is prone to terrorist attack, Razon said in a press conference at Camp Pastor Martelino in Kalibo town.
“The PNP is investing a lot to ensure that Boracay is protected from terrorist and lawless elements. The peace and order situation in the island is considered priority concern of the national police,” Razon said.
Razon came here to personally check peace and order in this resort island.
He also brought logistics and financial support for the operation of the Boracay Police.
“Aside from the P10-million APPO building to be put up in Camp Martelino, we also considered APPO as the provincial model of the integrated transformation program among our efforts to sustain peace and order for Boracay,” Razon said.
At present, the PNP is lobbying with Malacañang and other tourism-related agencies to implement the installation of CCTV camera in Boracay as additional security measure.
Earlier, the PNP has implemented the One Entry-One Exit policy to strictly monitor the entry and exit of tourists as well as residents.
“We are investing security equipment in Boracay because we want the tourists to feel relaxed and comfortable every time they visit the resort island,” Razon said.
The PNP chief said he is also open to the proposal of implementing a unified identification system among the residents, stakeholders, and laborers here.
The Department of Tourism reported that Boracay Island is frequented by both local and foreign tourists, the latter mostly Koreans, Chinese, Americans, and Europeans.
