ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas is positive on the improvement of the city's economy following a recent economic and business briefing held with the city's local businessmen and economic authorities.
According to Treñas, as far as businesses and investments are concerned, the city remains stable and unaffected by the present economic turmoil in the United States of America.
Treñas said that with the help of the Business Product Outsourcing (BPO) in the city, the local economy remains stable and improving further.
"The BPOs in our city are strong in their businesses and have bigger potentials here," Treñas said.
He added that there is no need to panic because the situation in the US is not that bad. He furthered that more investments are coming, especially from big call center companies and information technology businesses to Iloilo City.
As a matter of fact, Treñas said that Ayala Corporation is going to put up an IT building along Diversion Road in Mandurriao district which is expected to provide jobs for Ilonggos, especially to the fresh graduates.
Treñas also said that it is important for the city to have a sufficient supply of electricity, which is greatly needed by local business establishments.
He said business investors usually check if a target area for investment has enough power supply, adding that the putting up of a coal-fired power plant in the city would be a great help in augmenting the need for more electricity.
He said it would attract more business investors, especially from outside the country.
