Makati City is aiming be the next health and wellness tourism destination in the country.
Celine Celente, president of the Makati Tourism Foundation Inc., explained why the city is suited to become the country’s prime wellness spot.
“Makati is truly the premier city in the country and there is no other that can compare with it,” Celentre said.
She said that the city’s hospital, the Makati Medical Center, is a modern hospital that surpasses world-class standards. She also noted that the city has premier surgical centers, dental, eye, and cosmetic clinics, medical spas and emergency centers.
Incidentally, the Makati Tourism Foundation, recently launched the Medical Tourism Makati program, which is aimed at making the city the premier financial, commercial, entertainment, as well as medical and wellness spot in the country.
As such, Celentre said that the city has something for everyone.
“Makati is a place of extremes. You have the very high [places] and you also have the bargains. The plush malls and the exciting weekend bazaars. The five-star accommodations and the budget lodgings. Top-of-the-line medical and dental services and very affordable [health] care. You have the very modern and also the quaint relics of the past,” she said.
Furthermore, the goal is in line with the Department of Tourism’s holding of the Philippine Health and Wellness Tourism Summit, which has the theme, “Embracing Health and Wellness in the Heart of Asia.”
The summit, which will be held from October 22 to October 25, will gather key persons from the health and wellness industry, as well as those from the government and private sectors.-- Marian Jean F. Benetua
