[ Manila Bulletin Online ] November 26, 2008

CEBU CITY – The opening of an online training center in Cebu by an information technology firm and a business solutions provider is seen to sustain the growing demand for highly skilled IT professionals in the country and abroad.

Kaisa Consulting and SAP Philippines have introduced the eAcademy to develop the Enterprise Resource Planning culture in the southern Philippines while providing IT professionals with easier access to SAP’s specialized skills that are strongly in demand around the world.

The Cebu eAcademy is the first locator of the Technology Business Incubation center of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas- Cebu College.

"SAP is the hottest IT skill," said Kaisa Consulting Business Development Manager Urk Acapulco, who bared that 60 percent of the 900 SAP consultants are now employed in high-paying jobs abroad while the rest are working in the Philippines.

In India alone, he added, demand for SAP literate professionals reached over 100,000.

With the opening of the eAcademy here, IT professionals based in Cebu can now avail of educational skills training through an affordable payment scheme.

In order to fit the financial capacity of potential Filipino IT engineers, a 200-hour worth of training, which costs P100,000 will be offered via six to 12 months installment, said Acapulco.

But while the training is done online, he said enrollees are urged to go to the eAcademy at UP Cebu as online class will be done simultaneously with other trainees.

Modules being offered include financials, human resource, sales and distribution, procurement or material management, among others.

"The establishment of eAcademy in Cebu will not only provide easier access to professionals to job opportunities abroad but will also create good and topnotch pool of SAP literate community," Acapulco said.

Last year, SAP Philippines’ SAP Academy program was introduced in Cebu, together with Kaisa Consulting, in a move to help curb the draining supply of good IT skilled professionals here. (Malou Mozo)
