Developer sees expansion at Cebu IT park

[ Manila Bulletin Online ] November 30, 2008

CEBU CITY – Capitalizing on the robust tourism and outsourcing industries in Cebu, a Cebu-based developer is contemplating on either expanding its hotel chain to the metropolis or build a commercial establishment catering the business process outsourcing (BPO) companies.

Enrison Land Inc., (ELI) vice president Enrison Benedicto said the next priority project of the company is to develop the 2,000 square-meter company-owned property at the Asiatown IT Park.

Benedicto bared the company is presently undergoing a series of feasibility studies to determine the appropriate investment it needs to pursue at the information technology (IT) Park.

"We are considering either a hotel or another BPO building. These two ventures are showing great demand. Tourism is booming in Cebu as seen in the high arrival of foreign and local tourists. The BPO industry is a growing market with more outsourcing companies locating here," Benedicto said.

He said the company’s property at the Ayala-led Asiatown IT Park is strategically located, thus investing in either a hotel or a BPO building "is a best choice."

However, Benedicto stressed expanding the Microtel chain will heavily depend on the market response of its existing hotel in Mactan. Presently, though, he noted occupancy rate has been picking up since it was formally launched last September.

The hotel has gained the following mostly from the Korean visitors, he said.

ELI has invested at least R200 million for the establishment of the 161-room Microtel Resort in Mactan, which is the largest of all Microtel hotels across the Philippines.

The company has inked a deal with Microtel, for a 100 percent franchise package, which means investing in the resort facility while tapping the management expertise of the Microtel group. (Malou M. Mozo)
