THE Davao City Council will be voting Tuesday on whether to approve the Preliminary Application and Location Clearance (PALC) applications of Shrine Hills developers Crown Communities and DM Consunji.
"We have to decide on it. It has been discussed long enough. The challenge to the councilors now is how to balance investment and environment," Floor Leader Danilo Dayanghirang said in Monday's interview.
He added though that he is not sure what direction the voting will take because some members are still honestly determining where they stand on the issue.
"In principle, this can really be done as the area is classified in the Zoning Ordinance as residential," Dayanghirang said.
The proposed developments, however, were opposed by Ma-a homeowners who live below Shrine Hills, fearing possible landslides and more flooding.
The residents sought further studies on the slope's stability and an alternative water pathway from above. These two emerged as the most contentious points.
Councilor Victorio Advincula, in earlier hearings, said these issues were meant to be discussed when the developers apply for a development permit. (GLP)
