EMPLOYEES of the Cebu City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) will work overtime today and tomorrow to accept real property tax payments and to distribute the P2,000 additional cash gift to senior citizens.
CTO’s Real Property Tax Division is open the whole day today, a regular non-working holiday, and until 12 noon tomorrow, a special non-working holiday.
Even if the City already exceeded its target for real property tax collection for the third quarter this year, it will maximize the collection in the last two days of 2009.
And if property owners will pay their tax dues for 2010, they will get a 10-percent discount, said assistant city treasurer for operations Tessie Camarillo.
“Any advance payment, even if it’s for the current year but payment is made before the due date, we will give a 10 percent discount,” she said.
As of Sept. 30, 2009, the City already collected a total of P529.24 million in real estate taxes, exceeding the P440-million target collection for the first three quarters of
the year, as set by the Bureau of Local Government Finance.
The target for real property tax collection for this year is P551.14 million.
At City Hall yesterday, the ground floor was flooded with taxpayers beating the deadline for real property tax payments this year, while others paid in advance their dues for 2010 to avail themselves of the tax discount.
Some CTO personnel who will work overtime will also be deployed to the barangays to distribute the additional P2,000 cash gift of the City Government to senior citizens.
Senior citizens from some barangays in the north district got their gifts yesterday, while those from the south got their share last Monday night.
Barangays that were not accommodated in the past two days will be visited by CTO personnel today.
