MANILA, Philippines - Promoting a
sustainable supply chain through a pioneering Vendor Code of Ethics has gained
for Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) leadership ranking among Asia’s top corporations.
ALI ranked number one in the country
and is the only Philippine company that made it to the list of Asia’s Top 100
corporations. It was particularly cited for implementing “a supplier code of
ethics, requiring its vendors to uphold the human rights of their own employees
against universal standards.” Since 2009, ALI has pushed for strict compliance
of ethical guidelines among its suppliers. The said initiative is included in
the detailed ESG management disclosures published in its Integrated Annual and
Sustainability Report.
“It is truly an honor for Ayala Land
to be recognized as one of Asia’s leading companies in sustainability. We continuously strive to include
sustainability in our development processes and it has become integral in the
way we do business,” said Bernard Vincent O. Dy, ALI president and CEO.
Channel News Asia, in partnership with
Asia CSR, released its latest sustainability ranking at the recent CSR Asia
Summit held in Hong Kong. The ranking was conducted by leading research
provider Sustainalytics which provides an analysis of company-wide
environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance by top global
corporations. These companies must primarily “demonstrate strong public
disclosure.”
According to Anna Maria Gonzales, ALI
sustainability manager, “the ranking underscores our supply chain managers’
efforts to positively influence and encourage responsible behavior among
suppliers and partners. Sustainability works when the whole business chain
recognizes its importance.”
“We take care of our business, the
environment, and the community for people to gain something of value, a better
quality of life in communities that will thrive over generations. For us,
sustainability means doing what we do best in order to contribute to society
and to the nation in a positive way,” she said.
Ayala Land is the Philippines’ leading
and only full-line property developer known for its large master-planned and
sustainable estates. It is currently present in 31 growth centers across the
country and operates prime residential, commercial and leisure developments
that cater to a broad market. ALI was one of the first companies in the country
to engage in sustainability reporting based on the Global Reporting Initiative.
