BUTUAN CITY — President Arroyo urged yesterday the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast-track the ground movement of all road networks in Northeastern Mindanao as summer cropping will start in less than two weeks.
The Chief Executive who was in a two-day swing in Northeastern Mindanao specifically mentioned the immediate resumption of the R1.8-billion Surigao-Davao Coastal Road, which is a major factor in helping businesses and the farmers in their farm products.
In line with the construction of the Surigao-Davao Coastal Road, several infrastructure projects are set for public bidding on Monday, March 31, this was also disclosed by Northeastern Mindanao Public Works Director Romeo S. Momo.
"Kailangan ito ng ating mga magsasaka upang mapadali ang pagdadala ng kanilang produkto sa kabayanan lalung-lalo na ng kanilang mga palay," the President told DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane when informed by the latter that some of the projects are scheduled for completion this year.
The Chief Executive also urged Presidential Management Staff Secretary Cerge Remonde to closely coordinate with the DPWH, Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC), and Department of Agriculture (DA) in fast-tracking all infrastructure projects which are vital in farm production network.
Mrs. Arroyo, who ordered an infrastructure surge in Mindanao last February, added that she wants farm production not to be hampered.
