The Quezon Memorial Circle will be turned into a central park once the foundation that has been managing it for the last 20 years turns it over to the Quezon City government on July 1.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has ordered the creation of the Quezon Memorial Circle inventory committee to oversee to study its physical and financial strength.
“Prior to the actual turnover, it is necessary that an inventory of all properties, assets and liabilities contracts and such other operational matters in the administration and management of the Quezon Memorial Circle be conducted by the city government together with the Quezon City Parks Development Foundation, Inc.,” read an executive order issued by Belmonte.
On Sept. 27, 1988, then mayor Brigido Simon Jr. transferred the management of the Quezon Memorial Circle to the foundation for 20 years through a memorandum of agreement.
Belmonte has started the redevelopment of the Circle with the construction of the P49-million pedestrian overpass in October 2007 to link City Hall and the Circle.
“The Circle itself is going through a new development that shall revive its image as central part of the metropolis and give it due importance as the most important shrine in the city,” he said. – Perseus Echeminada
