Luxurious Cebu bus terminal to open soon

[ Manila Bulletin Online ] October 8, 2008
CEBU PROVINCIAL CAPITOL – Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said that the newly renovated, luxurious Cebu South bus terminal will be opened by October 30.

The new terminal is seen to give comfort to passengers bound for southern Cebu.

Governor Garcia inspected the on-going work at the terminal a few hours after she got home from Russia and was by briefed by Byron Garcia, Capitol consultant on security, on the status of the project.

In a press briefing, the governor said that by Oct. 30, the project will be completed as promised to her by the supervisor of the project. The terminal is being improved for the comfort of the passengers, she said.

Aside from the clean and hassle-free facility they are using today, the passengers will soon enjoy the luxury of an air-conditioned waiting lounge.

The provincial government had earlier imposed strict rules on the terminal by regulating the presence of dispatchers and by demolishing stalls illegally erected in the terminal.

A one-entrance, one-exit policy was also adopted.

Passengers could also use an escalator to do some shopping at the second level of the terminal which will house boutiques, spa, advertising area and souvenir shops.

The governor said that these spaces will be bided out and occupants of the remaining stalls will be given a chance to match the winning bid.

"We are looking at maximizing revenues but the primary concern is the safety and convenience of the passengers. Atong himoong hamugaway and kahimtang sa mga pasahero," Garcia said.

The governor said that the cost of the project is not big because the workers are employees of the provincial government.

As of last month, the terminal’s collections have reached R23.1 million or an average of R2.7 million a month.

Emmanuel Guial, acting administrator of the terminal, said that the target income of the terminal for this year is between R30 and R40 million. (Mars Mosqueda)
