THE Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), the largest shareholder of the Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH), is pouring in fresh investments to further improve the quality service of its hospital group.

This developed as MPIC is embarking on several measures to improve and upgrade its hospital facilities as it establishes a nationwide network of premium high quality hospitals.

In a disclosure to the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday, Augie Palisoc Jr., MPIC executive director who oversees the group's hospital business, said Metro Pacific acquired 34 percent of the issued shares capital of the DDH for P498-million in May 2008, making the Metro Pacific the single largest shareholder of the DDH, which is a leading private hospital in Davao Region.

Palisoc bared that the Metro Pacific is embarking on a P250-million capital expenditure that aims to align the medical center along the ranks of the best hospitals in Manila, adding that a substantial part of the budget will be earmarked to purchase and upgrade medical instruments and equipment to enhance the hospital's range of services.

He said cancer patients residing in Mindanao will have the benefit of accurate diagnosis and treatment through the procurement of a Brachytherapy unit and Linear Accelerator for the hospital's cancer center, while a new Digital Mammogram will provide less painful screening for its female clientele.

Also, the DDH is putting up an additional 100 doctors' clinics, renovation of its existing 200 rooms, and building parking areas that will accommodate at least 700 cars, Palisoc added.

As for the hospital's medical personnel, Palisoc said the Davao Doctors aims to provide training and development programs and run the flagship programs with the best trained specialists in Cardiology, Neurology and Oncology.

Aside from the DDH, the Metro Pacific Investment Corp. is now the owner and operator of the Makati Medical Center. It is handling the interim operation of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
