SM Prime Holdings Inc. recently signed
a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the local government of Cagayan De Oro
City, the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and Gawad
Kalinga to build 200 houses in Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Vice President and HUDCC chairman
Jejomar Binay witnessed the MoA signing that formalized the coordination of
work between SM Prime and government units and agencies in the rehabilitation
of the victims of tropical storm “Sendong” through the development of the
2.7346-hectare Canitoan Relocation Site.
The National Housing Authority (NHA),
the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of
Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) are also working with them on the project, Binay said.
The HUDCC chairman had tasked the NHA
to develop the Canitoan Relocation site to accommodate families displaced by
the typhoon Sendong, and those residing along riverbanks and danger areas of
the city.
The relocation site will host 200
homes donated by SM Prime, as well as 100 homes donated by Banco de Oro
Foundation — a total of 300 homes to be built by Gawad Kalinga which will also
organize a community association to empower the fledgling community towards
self-reliance and sustainability.
