Tacloban City (March 9) -- Seventy landowners in Biliran are now proud holders of their Free Patents.
This, after the Department of Energy and Natural Resources distributed the land titles to the respective landowners during the recently conducted People's government Mobile Action Caravan, through PAGCOR and the Office of the President and in coordination with the Provincial Government of Biliran, Ms. MG Sucgang, information officer of DENR reported.
PAGCOR Vice President Remedios Petilla said that the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wants the PGMA Caravan to become productive and to be of help to the people.
The issuance and distribution of Free Patents by the DENR over lands classified as alienable and disposable, is one of the government's programs to reduce poverty in the uplands through land ownership and its subsequent productivity.
Regional Executive Director Alfredo S. Pascual revealed that the Free Patents distributed covered an aggregate area of 439,524 square meters in Kawayan, Caibiran and Naval towns all in Biliran province.
With the issuance of their Free Patents, landowners can now have security over the land they are occupying and cultivating since it provides absolute proof of ownership, Director Pascual said. The Free Patents could be a source of business capital for the beneficiaries.
The happy new land title holders were among the big crowd of beneficiaries of various various government programs during the PGMA Caravan held on February 29, 2008 at the Naval Institute of Technology Auditorium in Naval, Biliran. (PIA 8)
