Low-cost housing project launched in Cavite town

[ Manila Bulletin Online ] May 11, 2008

CARMONA, Cavite -- The municipal government here and the Coalition for the Homeless Foundation Inc. (CHFI), in cooperation with the Housing and Urban Developent Coordination Council, have launched a low-cost housing project for the homeless residents of this town.

Local officials led by Mayor Roy M. Loyola and CHFI officials led by chairman Jose S. de Guzman and CHFI president Romantico Alvarez presided over the recent ground-breaking rites for the housing project located in Barangay Milagrosa.

In his brief message during the rites, Loyola said that the low-cost housing project is a big help to his constituents who up to now do not have their place of residence.

"This socialized housing project called the New Town Villas Carmona will benefit lowly paid workers in our town, particularly janitors, messengers, security guards, drivers, school teachers, policemen, and soldiers as well as factory workers, construction workers and selfemployed individuals," he said.

He thanked CHFI for choosing Carmona as the place for its mission of providing decent housing to the poor people who comprise 30 percent of the town’s population.

He said the primary beneficiaries of the CHFI housing projects are Pag-IBIG members and other qualified people living on and below the poverty line who are working in Metro Manila and other highly urbanized areas. He noted that these people cannot afford socialized housing packages due to the high cost of transportation from project location to their place of work. (Del Villanueva)
