MRC Allied
Inc. is set to start construction of its tourism project in Cebu City.
The company
said in a disclosure to the stock exchange it was set to break ground for the
first phase of the Cebu Technopark project in the economic zone of the New Cebu
Township One.
The first
phase of the Cebu Technopark will include the widening of the roads leading to
the proposed water park and the reconfiguration of the existing lake to
accommodate the proposed water park and recreational facility.
“This will be
the tourism related part of the zone that will cater to both local residents
and foreign visitors,” MRC said.
Phase one of
the project is expected to be completed by July 2013, it said.
Meanwhile,
MRC is taking over the management of NTCO as mandated by the Philippine
Economic Zone Authority.
This means
the maintenance of the Peza zone including improvements to the existing
facilities and utilities shall be undertaken by the company.
MRC said to
attract investors into the area, it was in talks with Peza for the promotion of
the NCTO as a prime economic zone in Cebu.
“The Peza has
committed to work hand in hand with the company to promote the zone to
industrial locators especially those from Japan who consider Cebu as a prime
location for export-oriented industries,” MRC said.
The company
is also in talks for the acquisition of the Seagate property inside the NCTO.
The property
currently spans 8.2 hectares and is located at the center of the NCTO.
This is the
same facility which Seagate built for $40 million but was never occupied.
