CEBU CITY --
Megaworld Corp. will inaugurate its mixed-use township development in Cebu and
break ground for a second business process outsourcing (BPO) building within
the complex today.
Jericho Go,
Megaworld first vice-president, said the firm had invited President Benigno S.
C. Aquino III, who arrived in Cebu last night for the Visayas campaign sortie
of the administration coalition.
The
16-hectare township on Mactan island, called Mactan Newtown, offers the same
“live-work-play” concept that Megaworld introduced in Eastwood City, Mr. Go
said. The township has BPO buildings, a residential component and retail
outlets.
One World
Center, a five-story BPO building, has been fully leased out.
Among the
tenants that will open this year are EnfraUSA and Results Manila, Mr. Go said.
“We expect
close to 2,000 employes to fill up One World Center’s facilities once the
tenants start operating,” he added.
Groundbreaking
ceremonies for Two World Center will also be held today in answer to the demand
for more office spaces at the township.
It will have
a bigger floor area of 7,500 square meters compared with the first building’s
6,000 square meters.
Mr. Go,
meanwhile, said all residential units of the first 15-storey residential
condominium building within the township have been sold to Japanese buyers.
Three more
15-storey residential buildings will comprise Eight Newtown Boulevard, which is
expected to be completed in two to three years. The lower levels of these
residential buildings will also be used for retail outlets and additional BPO
spaces. -- Marlen D. Limpag
