The Manila
North Tollways Corp. yesterday broke ground for the 8-kilometer road linking North Luzon Expressway with
North Harbor in Manila.
The project
estimated to cost P10 billion will take
three years to build. It will decongest traffic from the Manila Port Area to
the Caloocan-Navotas-Valenzuela end of the expressway.
The NLEX-
Harbor link is part of the three phase North Expressway concession project the
company is handling.
The first
phase is the operation and maintenance of the 84-km NLEX that connects Metro
Manila to Sta Ines, Mabalacat, Pampanga; and the maintenance of the 8-km Subic-Tipo road segment.
The second
phase is the construction, operation and maintenance of the 22-km northern
portion of C-5 from UP in Quezon City to C-3 in Caloocan City.
The third
phase is the construction, operation and
maintenance of the 65.8-km Subic arm that will connect the Subic Special
Economic Zone to the NLEX
Rodrigo E.
Franco MNTC president said construction of the Harbor link- NLEX to MacArthur
in Valenzuela- will start next month and will be completed in a year. Right of
way still has to be resolved for the longer portion from MacArthur Higway to C3
Road in Port Area, which will take two years.
Still another
right of way problems will have to be resolved for the road connecting Mindanao
Ave through Commonwealth and C5.
MPTC
president and CEO Ramon S. Fernandez
said the NLEX Harbor link is a
very good alternative to C-3 and A. Bonifacio Avenue.
Fernandez said , adding that motorists ,
especially truckers and haulers will benefit from the shorter time it will take
to move merchandise from the port area.
