GMA graces rites for Cavite housing project

[ Manila Bulletin Online ] March 7, 2008

GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite — The groundbreaking ceremony for the first Cavite mass housing project held last Wednesday in Pasong Kawayan II, this town was graced by President Arroyo and Vice President Noli de Castro.

Assisted by provincial government officials led by Gov. Ayong Maliksi, the President later distributed certificates of lot allocations to pre-qualified applicants.

The housing project, which will be undertaken in partnership with R-II Builders in a 53-hectare property, is said to be the first provincial mass-housing project in the country.

The project is intended to address the housing backlog in the province and will benefit 8,673 families who will have decent, affordable shelter.

Row houses and duplex-type structures will be built on lots with areas of from 32 square meters to 48 square meters, respectively.

Community facilities will be constructed at the center of the housing project with three village centers to be built at strategic areas in the community.

A market and commercial center where the residents can rent stalls will provide income for them, aside from the livelihood programs which will be implemented by the provincial government.

The housing project is open to Caviteños not over 55 years old and resident of any barangay in the province for the last three consecutive years.

An applicant should not be a landowner, homeowner or co-owner of any housing loan and not a beneficiary of any government or privately sponsored housing project.

Applications are strictly screened to avoid professional squatters or members of any squatting syndicate from availing themselves of the housing units.

Applicants for row-house or duplex units must be Pag-IBIG members. Household income of families who will avail of lot or house and lot unit should be sufficient to cover for the monthly amortization.

Some 10,000 Caviteños attended the groundbreaking ceremony, which was immediately followed by the distribution of PGMA-TWESP scholarship certificates and TESDA Galing Mekaniko and Galing Masahista kits by President Arroyo. (Mandy Francisco)
