Hotel occupancy rate falls in Jan.

The average occupancy rate of de luxe hotels in January 2008 has posted to 73.69 percent, a -2.8 percent declined from 75.83 percent even as the occupancy of first-class hotels fell to -8.27 percent level, figures from the Tourism Research and Statistics Division of Department of Tourism’s (DoT) showed.

Pan Pacific Manila got the highest occupancy mark with 89.97 percent, a growth rate of 0.40 percent f from its previous record of 89.61 percent among the eighteen (18) de luxe hotels that submitted occupancy report.

Holiday Inn, Galleria Manila settled in second spot with 86 percent occupancy rate, -3.37 percent, Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila with 81 percent and Diamond Hotel Philippines with a 79.39 percent.

The highest growth rate was achieved by Diamond Hotel with 24.2 percent to 79.3 percent last Jan. from 63.9 percent of the same period a year ago.

Figures of occupancy rate of other hotels showed that Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila recorded a 79.13 percent last Jan. from 79.5; Makati Shangri-La, 79.5 percent from 88.01; Edsa Shangri-La, 78 percent from 84.4 percent; The Heritage Hotel Manila, 78.9 percent from 70.8 percent; Mandarin Oriental Manila, 77.6 percent from 82 percent The Bellevue Manila, 76.22 percent from 78.54 percent; Hotel Intercontinental Manila, 76.8 percent from 81.6 percent; Renaissance Makati City, 75.8 percent from 80.2 percent; The Peninsula Manila, 70.5 percent from 74 percent; Dusit Hotel Nikko, 54 percent from 55.2 percent; and Vivere Suites, 32.14 percent from 38 percent.

The 2.78 nights average length of stay of guests was 8.59 percent longer than the 2.56 nights average length of stay of de luxe hotel guests for the same month in 2007.

The average occupancy rate of first class hotels for the month of January 2008 was 73.79 percent, about 8.2 percent lower from the 80.44 percent occupancy level for the same month in 2007.

But, the average length of stay of accredited first-class hotel guests was 2.65 nights which is 21.56 percent longer than the 2.18 nights average length of stay recorded in January 2007.

Among the eight first-class hotels that submitted occupancy, Traders Hotel Manila occupied the first slot with an 88.6 percent occupancy rate followed by Discovery Suites with an 84.1 percent as well as recorded the longest staying guests at 5.46 nights. On the other hand, CSB International Conference Center also recorded a 46 percent occupancy.
